Prepare for the unexpected! Genoa City is gearing up to welcome back one of its most chaotic and unpredictable characters! Stacy Haiduk, renowned for her role in daytime television, will reprise her portrayal of Patty Williams in the beloved soap opera "The Young and the Restless" this coming March, as reported by TV Insider. Haiduk, whose talent earned her a nomination for a Daytime Emmy, is also known for her compelling performances on "Days of Our Lives," where she plays the notorious Kristen DiMera and Susan Banks. Her last appearance in Y&R dates back to 2016.
A Character with a Dark History
Stacy Haiduk first stepped into Patty’s shoes in 2009, but the character herself has a long-standing history, initially appearing on the show all the way back in 1980. Patty is not just any character; she is the sister of Paul Williams, played by Doug Davidson, and was once the wife of Jack Abbott, portrayed by Peter Bergman. The role was originally filled by Tammy Taylor, followed by Lilibet Stern from 1980 to 1983. During Stern’s portrayal, Patty experienced heartbreak when she discovered that Jack was cheating on her with another woman, Diane, leading to a series of tragic events including a miscarriage and a dramatic confrontation where she shot Jack after hearing his true feelings about their marriage.
After a brief stint with Andrea Evans in the mid-1980s, who introduced a romantic subplot involving Danny Romalotti, Patty vanished from the scene. When Haiduk brought her back years later, Patty had undergone extensive plastic surgery—a transformation funded by the powerful Victor Newman. This new identity, Mary Jane Benson, allowed her to wreak havoc in Jack’s life under false pretenses, ultimately ending with her institutionalization. After escaping from a mental health facility and taking on yet another disguise—this time as her therapist—Patty manipulated Jack into marrying her again, only for her deception to be unveiled, resulting in more chaos and yet another stint in a psychiatric institution.
Patty’s tumultuous journey continued as she escaped once more and attempted to harm Jack again in 2012. Following various ups and downs, she was finally relocated to a facility named Rivercrest in 2016, close to Genoa City, where she has been held since.
A Villainess Returns
Since her last appearance on "The Young and the Restless," Haiduk has been making waves on "Days of Our Lives" in her celebrated roles as both Kristen and Susan, captivating audiences with her unique take on these characters. Although Haiduk is balancing both shows—filming for "Days" often takes place nearly a year ahead—her return to Y&R promises to stir the pot significantly. Haiduk’s return has been met with enthusiasm by the show's Executive Producer and Head Writer Josh Griffith, who hinted at an intriguing storyline that will see Patty causing quite a stir once again in the lives of familiar faces in Genoa City, especially Jack.
As Haiduk once described her character, "You never know what she’ll bring to the party. She’s definitely a loose cannon." Indeed, there are numerous characters in the show who might find themselves in serious trouble with Patty’s unwelcome comeback.
